Microdermabrasion:
What is it?
Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses fine abrasive particles to exfoliate the skin and improve its appearance. It can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including acne, scarring, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. Microdermabrasion assists in the turnover of skin cells, promoting the growth of new, healthy skin. Having microdermabrasion exclusively is a less expensive option than more aggressive treatments like laser resurfacing. It is safe for all skin types and can be performed as often as every two weeks.

Microdermabrasion is ideal if you are looking for a safe and effective way to improve the appearance of your skin. It can be used to treat a number of concerns, including acne, scarring, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.
Although it is generally well-tolerated, some people may experience temporary redness, swelling, dryness or peeling of the skin after the procedure.

Diamond microdermabrasion is a newer and more advanced form of microdermabrasion that uses a diamond-tipped handpiece to exfoliate the skin. It is gentle enough for sensitive skin types and can be used on the face, neck, chest and hands. Diamond microdermabrasion is safe, effective and requires no downtime.

How it works
To understand how microdermabrasion works, it is first necessary to understand how the skin functions. The skin is composed of three main layers: the epidermis (the outermost layer), the dermis (the middle layer), and the subcutis (the innermost layer). The epidermis is constantly shedding dead skin cells, which are replaced by new cells that rise up from the bottom of the layer. This process, known as cell turnover, slows down as we age, resulting in a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. This can lead to a dull, uneven complexion and an increase in fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of ageing.
Microdermabrasion works by removing the outermost layer of dead skin cells, revealing fresh, healthy skin underneath. The procedure uses a device that emits fine particles of aluminium oxide or sodium bicarbonate onto the skin. These particles gently exfoliate the skin, removing the dead skin cells and stimulating cell turnover. The result is a softer, smoother and more youthful-looking complexion.

The procedure is safe for all skin types and can be performed as often as every two weeks. Although it is generally well-tolerated, some people may experience temporary redness, swelling, dryness or peeling of the skin after the procedure.
